Passenger robs taxi driver of his vehicle

Winneba(CR), June 07, GNA - Daniel Atsitso 30, a taxi driver at Winneba was shocked when a passenger who boarded his taxi poured powdered pepper into his eyes, hit him with a hammer and snatched his taxi from him.

Deputy Superintendent Of Police and Winneba District Police Commander, Nicholas Gasu, who disclosed to Ghana News Agency at Winneba said the driver took the passenger from Agona Swedru to Agona Duakwa on June 1 at about 1600 hours.

He said Atsitso told the police that on reaching Agona Duakwa, the passenger requested that he was sent to Agona Nsaba and back to Winneba and he obliged.

DSP Gasu said when they reached Winneba at about 2000 hours, the passenger told Atsitso to continue to a spot at Gyatekrom near Gomoa Okyereko where the passenger poured powdered pepper into his eyes and hit him with a hammer rendering him unconscious before dragging him (Atsitso) from the vehicle and bolted.

The police commander said a Good Samaritan assisted the driver to the Winneba Government Hospital where he was admitted for three days. He said the police have mounted a search for the passenger and the vehicle, an Opel Astra taxi with registration number GT 3940 Y. DSP Gasu appealed to anyone who would find the vehicle to report to the nearest police station.
