Severe Water Crisis Hits Senya-Beraku

Senya-Beraku (C/R), May 13, GNA-A bucket-full of potable water now sells at 2,000 cedis at Senya-Beraku in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District of the Central Region, as water crisis in the area continues to deteriorate.

According to the Chairman of Senya-Beraku Urban Council, Mr. Kwame Onassis Anderson, the people have not got regular flow of water from Agona Kwanyarku Waterworks for the past two years.

The situation, he said, had badly affected inhabitants of the ancient fishing town and its environs and was also affecting the smooth running of the government health facility in the town. Mr. Anderson disclosed this to Mr. Solomon Kwashie Abbam-Quaye, the District Chief Executive for the area, when he inspected roads and other development projects being implemented by the Government in the area on Thursday.

Mr. Anderson however, expressed the community's appreciation to the Government for the road and school infrastructure being provided them and called on the government to expedite action on plans to connect the area to the new Winneba water projects as promised two years ago. At the Senya Community Health Centre, Mr Charles Acquah, Medical Assistant In-Charge of the Centre, confirmed the report stressing that the situation was hampering the operations of the centre.

Mr. Acquah rold the DCE that workers at the facility have been relying on rain water to run the clinic and suggested the construction of a well for the centre to resolve the issue once and for all. Replying, Mr. Abbam-Quaye promised to take up the issue with the appropriate quarters for a lasting solution.
