BOPP did well in 2006, says Yamson

Takoradi, May 7, GNA - Mr. Ishmael E. Yamson, Board Chairman of the Benso Oil Palm Plantation (BOPP), said on Monday that the company performed extremely well in 2006.

He said efficient oil extraction, focused cost control, improvements in agronomic practices, good labour practices and price coupled with cost of operation accounted for the performance. Mr. Yamson said this at the annual general meeting of the company at Takoradi.

"I am pleased to inform you that while price levels in 2006 were modestly above 2005, the trends in 2007 already indicate that price levels shall be significantly above those of 2006."

Mr. Yamson said though price was beyond the control of management, it was doing its best to ensure that the Leaf Miner Disease which hit the company in 2003 and 2004 would not re-occur on a large scale.
