Stop chasing MPs for money - MP

Jachie (Ash), April 29, GNA - Mr Simon Osei Mensah, the Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, has told people in his constituency to stop chasing him for money because his share of the Common Fund was not kept in his pocket for distribution.

He said the fund was usually spent on development projects and that it was not meant to be shared to individuals or communities.

Mr Mensah said this in an address for him at a durbar of the chiefs and people of Jachie in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District on Saturday. He said the Common Fund was inadequate and could not make any impact and appealed for its increase to meet the needs of communities in terms of development.

Mr Mensah pledged to complete the D/A 2 JSS block he was financing and that he would soon inaugurate a 10-seater KVIP toilet he had put up in the town.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Emmanuel Asamoah Owusu-Ansah, appealed to communities to use annual meetings and social gatherings to initiate development projects since the government was ready to support any community that initiated its own projects. He said in an address read on his behalf that as a result of the capitation grant and the school feeding programme schools had become overpopulated.

Therefore, the government would build new school blocks to absorb the large numbers.

Nana Baffour Amoateng 11, chief of Jachie, appealed to the government to help them rehabilitate roads as well as the extension of electricity to a new site of the town. He urged the district assembly to help them complete their abattoir that needs only fittings to become operational.
