High Commission Denies Lens' Story

REJOINDER: LENS: TAX-PAYERS MONEY USED FOR NPP CONFERENCE

The Ghana High Commission in London wishes to react to the above story attributed to the Lens Newspaper in Ghana and carried on your website.

The High Commission states emphatically that there is no truth in the allegation that it used official funds to support the NPP Delegates Conference in London on 16th and 17th March, 2007. The other allegations and insinuations in the story are so far-fetched and ridiculous that they call for no comment.

It is a fact that the brochure published by the NPP for their conference recognised the High Commission as one of the institutions that supported the NPP event. There is no mystery to the support referred to in the brochure.

Where the High Commission is concerned the support could have had only one meaning – an acknowledgement of the consultations which took place between the Executives of the Party and the High Commission to ensure that proper arrangements were made for the President’s participation in the Delegates Conference, including attention to security issues.

The author of the report betrays lack of understanding about the work of the High Commission and the responsibility of the High Commissioner. When a Presidential visit takes place, it is the responsibility of the High Commissioner to plan, manage and be involved in all aspects of the President’s programme. That responsibility was carried out during the President’s successful State Visit in March and the same will be done in the future.

The High Commission wishes to assure all Ghanaians in the United Kingdom that it will remain focused on its duties and that in carrying them out, the Mission will be accessible to all Ghanaians without regard to any circumstances.
