Visually impaired candidates given emboldened exam papers

Cape Coast, April 23, GNA - Vision impaired candidates who are writing the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have been provided with special emboldened prints and are therefore writing with their able colleagues.

This came to light when the Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur and Ms Rosemond Blay, Regional Director of Education, visited some of the examination centres in the Cape Coast Municipality and the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District.

Mrs Juliana Owusu-Ansah, the supervisor at the University Practice Secondary School, said six visually impaired candidates were among the 424 students from six schools writing at the centre.

Also at Adisadel College, Mr Victor Mensah Adator said one of such candidates was among the 631 students writing the examination. Ms Blay said the mixing of the visually impaired and other physically challenged candidates was in line with the provisions of the new education reforms and that this is to help build up their confidence.

She said in all 34,461 candidates are to write the examination at 112 centres in the region.
