Christians advised to be active in developmental issues

Accra, April 1, GNA - The Reverend Dr. Yaw Frimpong Manso, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, on Sunday urged Christians to be active in finding a lasting solution to the numerous national problems, particularly the conservation of energy. "In our national life, we should endeavour to be active participants in the development rather than being mere spectators looking up to others to do it for us."

Rev. Frimpong Manso was preaching at the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Kanda, at a special service to mark the celebration of Palm Sunday and the beginning of the Holy Week in the Christian Calendar. He reminded Christians that the celebration of Palm Sunday in the Christians Calendar, which means: "God Save Us' should spur them on to cry unto the Lord to save the country.

The celebration of the Holy Week or Passion Week, he said was very important since without it there would have been no possibility of personal transformation, no promise of forgiveness or hope for eternal life.

He asked if the word "Hosanna" was relevant to us as a nation, people or family in our current times and advised Christians to constantly call on God to save the nation from our present predicaments, disunity, spiritual bankruptcy and physical poverty.

Palm Sunday should not only be a day of joy but also a day of giving what one possesses to help others, he said.

"Let us avail ourselves and our gifts, talents and resources for His use," he told the congregation.

The Moderator also touched on the humility demonstrated by Jesus Christ on the day and urged Christians to be humble wherever they found themselves since humility also meant the victory of Christ.

Rev. Frimpong Manso said: "We need to develop His attitude of humility as we serve, even when we are not likely to get recognition for our efforts...Let us be reminded that our careers, our education, our finances, our homes, all of the basic materials we need in our lives are to be used to serve Christ and His people."
