Ghana to establish Trade and Investment Centre in Thailand

Accra, March 22, GNA- Vice President Alhaji Mahama on Wednesday announced plans by Government to establish Trade and Investment Centre in Thailand to deepen bilateral links.

The centre, which would reciprocate a similar centre Thailand had opened Ghana was among the number of agreements the Vice President clenched during his official visit to Thailand in August last year. It was however shelved due to the Coup d' tat that overthrew the then civilian administration.

The idea was revisited when Mrs Oranuj Osatananda, Deputy Minister of Commerce, led a nine-member delegation to call on Vice President Mahama at the Osu Castle.

He said the visit would give a political boost to trade and investment, which he said was key to bilateral relations. Vice President Mahama asked the delegation to liase with the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre to explore the trade and business opportunities in Ghana.

He said his visit to Thailand had convinced him that Ghana could learn a lot from the Asian country such as skill training. Mrs Osatananda said she had met with officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and NEPAD on how to strengthen trade and investments between the two countries by dealing with setbacks such as double taxation.

She said the political stability in Ghana made it possible for Thailand to trade with Ghana. Mrs Osatananda said her country was looking forward to import unspecified products from Ghana.
