EC calls for violence free election at Nkoranza-North

Nkoranza (B/A), March 12, GNA - The Electoral Commission (EC) has held an Inter-Party Advisory Committee meeting at Nkoranza for the leadership of the three parties contesting the Nkoranza-North seat to educate their supporters and members to comport themselves to ensure a violence free election on Tuesday.

The parties are the New Patriotic Party (NPP), whose candidate is Major Derek Oduro (rtd), Democratic Peoples' Party fielding Mr Osei Bonsu Junior and the National Democratic Congress, whose candidate is Dr Kofi Amoako-Gyampah.

Mr. Kofi Frimpong, Nkoranza District Electoral Officer, speaking at the meeting said the EC had put in place adequate measures to ensure the successful conduct of the exercise.

He said competent polling officials would man all the polling centres and expressed confidence that "everything about the bye-election would go on smoothly".

The Electoral Officer commended the people of Nkoranza for not recording any violence in all previous elections, which he attributed to the sterling comportment exhibited by the youth of the various political groups.

Mr. Frimpong advised party agents at the polling stations to avoid acting beyond their limits and not to interfere in the work of the electoral officers.

He suggested to the parties to ensure that their agents were literate who could read and write to witness all the records that would be taken at the centres to avoid any cause for challenge on any issue. Mr. Frimpong urged electoral officers to create a sound and peaceful atmosphere and to establish cordial working relationship with accredited officials to ensure a successful conduct of the elections. He commended the leaders of the parties for carrying out their campaigns in a peaceful manner and pleaded with them to continue in the same spirit on the polling day.
