Ghana Navy institutes measures to check illegal fishing

Sekondi, March 12, GNA - Ghana Navy has instituted measures to check illegal fishing and poaching at sea, Naval Captain Samuel Anim, Commanding Officer of Sekondi Naval Base, said at the weekend.

He said the measures were to bring sanity into the fishing industry and urged fishermen and the public to co-operate with the Navy to ensure peace and order in the country.

Naval Captain Anim was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), during an open day organised by the Western Naval Command for the public at Sekondi.

He said the day was to foster cordial relations between the Navy, civil society and offered an opportunity for the public to know more about their operations.

Thousands of people including school children, students, the public and organisations visited facilities of the command and went on trips with naval ships.

Some came from Kumasi, Tarkwa, Sefwi Wiawso, Cape Coast and Winneba.
