Ghana Embassy in Rome goes on-line

The official website of Ghana Embassy in Rome is out. The site at: www.ghanaembassy.it is still under construction but now has informative features, among them information on contact telephone lines and e-mail to various departments of the Mission, the Diplomatic staffs, facts sheet on Ghana, about visas and passports applications, Trade & Investments and news about Ghanaians in Italy.

Earlier this year, His Excellency Charles Agyei-Amoama, Ghana’s new Ambassador to Italy in an interview pointed out that the Ghana Embassy in Rome will establish a website this year which will enable many Ghanaians in Italy to process their passports and other related documents without necessary making long distances travelling to Rome but expectation wasn’t so soon.

Head of Chancellery and First Secretary of the Mission, Hon. Aikins Abrokwa, says the website will also provide information about the work of the Mission, the Ghanaian communities in Italy and links would be established for the public to put in suggestions and comments. Abrokwa also said the website would be linked to websites of Ghanaians’ Associations in Italy and other sites from Ghana to provide a wide range of information to the public. He also mentioned it will be an opportunity to register Ghanaians in Italy.

Many Ghanaians in Italy have welcomed new developments taking place at the Embassy since 3 top officials of the Mission were replaced late last year. They have called on the Ambassador to work hard in putting into practice the processing of passport and other documents through the system indicated. One Ghanaian resident in the north of Italy said: “It doesn’t make sense to spend over €100 to travel to the Embassy in Rome to translate a birth certificate or a document which will cost €30.” Says another: “the passport renewal fee is €200 but by the time we are through with it we have spent over €300 considering the amount involved in traveling to Rome. Having passports renewed through the system indicated by the Ambassador will help us a lot.”

The Secretary of Council of Ghanaian Nationals Association in Italy (COGNAI) commenting on the site said the zeal and determination in work of the Ambassador and his noble staffs would help to put all positive ideas into reality.
