Yendi is peaceful and haven of investment - DCE

Yendi (N/R), March 2, GNA - Yendi is as peaceful as any part of the country and a haven for investment, Alhaji Mohammed Habib Tijani, Yendi District Chief Executive, has said.

He said some sections of the public and some media organisations were still painting gloomy pictures of Yendi to scare investors. Alhaji Tijani said this during an interaction with some musicians led by Mr. David (Rocky) Dawuni when they paid a courtesy call on him on Wednesday.

Mr. Dawuni led a delegation of music stars mainly from the north comprising Emmanuel Samini (Batman), Ramatu Ibrahim (Mama Rams), Yamusah Mohammed Sheriffe (Sheriffe Ghali) and Abubakari Saddique (Abu Sadic) on a three-day campaign for communities to observe good hygiene. The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is sponsoring the programme that is also aimed at seeking ways of providing potable water to communities.

The group used drama to entertain people and educated them on the dangers of drinking stagnant and contaminated water. Alhaji Tijani advised the musicians not to underrate their work and said it was impacting positively on the lives of individuals and urged them to use music to tell the world about the good things in Northern Region and Yendi in particular.

Mr. Dawuni said poverty levels in the north was bad due to the unfavourable rainfall pattern and that it was necessary for people of the north to put politics aside and see how best they could transform the region. He said as musicians they would use their voices to invest in the people by using music to paint the "Poverty picture" for Good Samaritans to help the people. Mr. Dawuni said his group had no magic antidote to the poverty and the poor sanitation problem in the north but that their presence and their music would be used as a wakeup call for people to observe good sanitation practices.

He called on Ghanaian musicians to serve as a potent force to effect attitudinal change to improve the lives of the people to promote growth and development. 02 March 07
