Alhaji Grusah before court for assault

Sunyani Feb. 23, GNA- The Sunyani Circuit Court on Thursday granted 10 million cedis bail to Alhaji Karim Grusah, Chairman of the Kumasi-based King Faisal Football Club, for allegedly assaulting a policeman at the Sunyani Coronation Park.

The club chairman allegedly slapped one Sergeant Isaac Adu on February 18, 2007 for preventing him from assaulting Mr Reginald Larthbridge, the Referee in a match between his club and Kumasi Asante Kotoko over claims of biased officiating.
He pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault on a public officer and was granted bail with one surety to reappear on March 14, 2007. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Kingsley Baafi told the court presided by Mr Kofi Debrah that just before the recess, Alhaji Grusah moved from the Very Important Persons (VIP) lounge to the Match Commissioner to protest against the referee.
He said during the recess Alhaji Grusah made an attempt to assault Mr Larthbridge but the security personnel on duty prevented him. The prosecutor said the accused slapped Sgt. Adu as he was escorting the referee to the dressing room Grusah amidst insults. He said the police arrested and whisked Alhaji Grusah to the Sunyani Police station where he was granted police enquiry bail.
