Effah-Dartey calls on police to find killers

Accra, Feb. 14, GNA - Captain Nkrabeah Effah-Dartey (RTD), (NPP-Berekum), on Wednesday urged the Ghana Police Service to do all in its power to find the killers of Mr Sam Ennin, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association, to ensure public confidence.

The Member of Parliament, who described the killing of the journalist, gunned down last Friday, as an "Hollywood style" murder, said everyone was at risk and it was no longer safe for one to walk into a drinking bar to enjoy oneself.

Capt. Effah-Dartey was contributing to a statement congratulating the Police Service for ensuring a peaceful and crime-free Christmas and New Year holidays.

Mrs Gifty Kusi, Second Deputy Chief Whip, made the statement on the floor of the house and called for more support for the service. Mr Kwadwo Adjei-Darko, (NPP-Sunyani West), urged the police to do more to check road accidents brought about by defective headlights. He said such defective headlights were the source of great fatalities on the roads claiming lives needlessly.

Mr Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, the Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment, said proper policing should involve all the citizenry.

He said with the approach of the 50th anniversary celebrations, which was likely to see every one in a jubilant mood, the security agencies should be on high alert to hold in check adventurers bent on creating havoc.

The house, had earlier, paid glowing tribute to the memory of the late Sandem-Nab, Nab Dr. Asantilow Ayieta, Paramount Chief of Builsa in the Upper East Region, describing him as a disciplined and peace-loving person who was committed to the development of the nation. Mrs Agnes Chigabatia, (NPP- Builsa North), in a statement, said the people of Builsa had lost a counsellor, mediator and a development-oriented chief.

Mr John Ndebugre, (PNC-Zebilla), urged the kingmakers to find a worthy replacement in a peaceful manner.

He said already there were reports of simmering tensions over who was going to succeed the late king and urged the security agencies to closely monitor the situation to ensure peace and order.
