Jonah resigns from Anglogold Ashanti Board

Accra, Feb. 13, GNA - Dr Sam Esson Jonah on Monday resigned from the Board of Anglogold Ashanti as a non-executive director. A statement from the company in Accra on Tuesday said the resignation takes immediate effect.

It said the Board expressed its gratitude to Dr Jonah's contribution to the Board.

The company also announced the appointment of Mr Sipho Pityana as a non-executive director of the Board with effect from Tuesday. Mr. Pityana is the executive chairman of Izingwe Holdings (Proprietary) Limited and has occupied strategic roles in both the public and private sectors, including the positions of director-general of the National Departments of Labour and Foreign Affairs of South Africa.

The statement quoted the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr Russel Edey, as saying, 93We welcome Sipho Pityana to our board and look forward to the contribution that he will doubtless make to the success and sound governance of Anglogold Ashanti." 13 Feb. 07
