Deputy British PM to visit Ghana

Accra, Feb. 9, GNA - The Deputy British Prime Minister, Mr John Prescott, arrives in Accra on Tuesday for a four-day official visit during which he will call on President John Agyekum Kufuor and visit Anomabo and Cape Coast in the Central Region.

A statement on Friday signed by Mr Andrew Awuni, Press Secretary to the President, said Mr Prescott would meet President Kufuor on Wednesday and leave for Cape Coast where he would also meet the Central Regional Minister and the Omanhene of Cape Coast.

On Thursday, he and the Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama would call on the Chief of Anomabo and then participate in the groundbreaking event at the site selected for the Slave Trade Monument as well as the 200th anniversary of the abolition of Slave Trade.

On February 16, Mr Prescott would attend the 200th anniversary celebration of the abolition of the Slave Trade under the auspices of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). He returns to the UK on February 16.
