VAT closes down the only Internet Cafe at Wa.

Wa, Jan 25, GNA - Officials from the Valued Added Tax Service on Monday closed down MAANALINKS, the only commercial Internet caf=E9 in the Wa Municipality, for non payment of tax totalling 93 million cedis. Mr. Charles Antwi Boasiako, Debt Management Supervisor of the service, told newsmen at Wa on Wednesday that between July 2004 and November 2006, management of the cafe failed to pay 20.1 million cedis as tax and this attracted an interest of 5.2 million cedis.

Late returns attracted penalties totalling 66.5 million cedis all accumulating to the figure of 93 million cedis.

Mr. Boasiako said the caf=E9 would be given 14 days to settle indebtedness else property in it would be auctioned to defray the tax element involved.

Mr. Kwesi Ackaah, the Regional Head of the service, said the service would soon descend on all those who were defaulting in payments of tax and urged them to live up to their tax obligations.

He said 17 traders were on their debt list and urged them to either settle their debts or face the wrath of the service.
