"The Suicide Bomber" is a Ghanaian?

London, Jan 18 - Manfo Kwaku Asiedu, one of the alleged July 21 London bombers arrived in London from Ghana, a few months before the botched terrorist attack, a court has heard

The Woolwich Crown Court heard evidence from William Ansa-Otu, who picked Asiedu up from Heathrow Airport when he first arrived in Britain from Ghana, and let him stay with him for a while.

After July 7, 2005, Mr Ansa-Otu said he, Asiedu - whom he called Smiler - and another man were discussing the bombings.

"Everybody was talking about why did it happen," he told the court.

"What I heard from his mouth was 'You don't know. There could be sponsorship to Afghanistan."'

He said he did not ask him any questions about his comment.

Earlier, the jury heard how the main charge for the alleged bombs was made of a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and chapatti flour.

In his opening address, prosecutor Nigel Sweeney QC said the alleged bombers had purchased 443 litres of peroxide in 284 bottles from suppliers in Finchley, Tottenham and Finsbury Park, north London.

Asiedu, 33, of no fixed address; Yassin Omar; Muktar Said Ibrahim, 28, from Stoke Newington, north London, Ramzi Mohammed, 25, from North Kensington, west London, Hussain Osman, 28, of no fixed address; and Adel Yahya, 24, of High Road, Tottenham all deny charges of conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to cause explosions likely to endanger life.
