Xmas Alert: Expired Products For Sale

Acccording to The Point newspaper, some unscrupulous people are changing the expiry dates of expired food products at the Central Business City of Accra.

These expired food products, after their dates have been extended, are sold at cheaper prices to unsuspecting consumers in order to clear the backlog of these products.

The information further revealed that, these food products which are mostly foreign one’s are currently “hot cakes” on the market due to its affordability.

However, these expired food products have given jobs to many women as they have become the retailers of these products. Some of these food products include canned beverages, drinks, biscuits and milk.

Further search done by The Point revealed that, these unscrupulous people who are hiding at Makola are able to do so as a result of the fact that, most of these food products either do not have expiry dates on them or the dates are written with indelible inks.

Meanwhile, a reliable source at the Food Drugs Board (FDB), has disclosed to the point that, the FDB has received such complaints and it is investigating it to clutch those expired food products. The source further revealed that, “the law would deal with anybody associated with such acts.”

“Inscriptions on food products should be done with indelible ink. The products should also have production date, expiry date and badge numbers. The product should also have the company’s contact address” this, he said, were some of the things to look out for when buying food products on the market.
