Starlets Qualify

Sunyani(B/A), Dec. 10, GNA - The National Under-17 side, the Black Starlets on Sunday beat the Baby Elephants of Cote D'Ivoire by two goals to nil (2-0) to qualify for the African Under-17 tournament next year in their second leg qualifier at the Sunyani Coronation Park.

The Starlets opened the scores in the third minute of the match through striker Adams Sadick after tussling with a defender over the ball right inside the 18 yard box from an in-swinger delivered from the right flank.

The National side dominated play in the entire 90 minutes of the game with the best opportunities coming their way in an attempt to increase the tally in the 25th, 35th, 40th and the 68th minutes but the Ivorian goalkeeper, Okoua Christian Fabrice was on target to salvage the situation by punching out most of the dangerous kicks delivered by strikers Alhassan Abdul Narh, Adams Sadick and Osei Ransford.

Osei Ransford finally struck home for the second goal for Ghana in the 69th minute when he capitalized on an off-side trap set up by the visitors to beat the keeper to the ball following a surging pass from substitute Ishmael Yartey to send the home fans on a joyous mood. The first leg ended 3-1 in favour of the Ivorians.
