Palm oil extraction factory for Adamso

Adamso (Ash), Dec 1, GNA - The United Oil Palm Growers and Marketing Co-operative Society at Adamsi in the Adansi South District is to benefit from 150 million cedis palm oil and kernel extraction factory.

The project is under the government's Agricultural Sector Improvement Programme (ASIP).

ASIP donated the extraction machine valued at 80.5 million cedis to the society and work on the 70 million cedis factory building will start soon.

Mr Kwabena Appiah-Pinkrah, the Member of Parliament for Adansi-Akrofuom, has donated 10 packets of roofing sheets, 50 bags of cement and 10 boxes of roofing nails valued at 28 million cedis to the society for the start of the project.

Mr J.K. Kyei, the chairman of the co-operative society, announced these during the sod cutting for the commencement of the factory building at Adamso on Wednesday.

He said the MP facilitated 20 million cedis loan from the Akrofuom Rural Bank by the society towards the project. Speaking at the ceremony Mr Appiah-Pinkrah appealed to members of the society to work with commitment towards making the project very viable.

He said the project formed part of the government's programmes at reducing poverty especially in the rural communities. Mr Appiah-Pinkrah said 33 kilometres of feeder roads within the Akrofuom constituency would soon be reshaped to improve the carting of food and cash crops to marketing centres.

Mr Francis Dorpenyoh, the Adansi South District Chief Executive, said the palm oil extraction factory was being sited at Adamso because of the unity and communal spirit of the people. He said the district assembly would monitor the operation of the extraction machine to check any abuse. 01 Dec 06
