E-AMASS wins Independence anniversary debate

Saltpond (C/R), Nov. 30, GNA - Ekumfi TI Ahmadiyya Secondary School at Essarkyir, has won the Mfantseman District 50th independence anniversary debate held at Saltpond.

Four senior secondary schools in the District participated in the debate organized by the District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES), on the topic: 93Inter scholastic sports impede academic progress=94.

Miss Yakubu Sherifa and Master Gariba Garfar, who represented E-AMASS and debated against the topic scored 61.7 to win the competition.

Miss Millicent Morrison and Miss Betty Esi Osafo, who debated in favour of the topic, scored 55 points to take the second position for Saltpond Methodist High School.

Miss Helen Habib and Angelina Boateng of the Mfantseman Girls Secondary School placed third with 52.7 points whilst Mankessim Secondary Technical School, which was represented by Master John Ankrah and Miss Hagar Kuntu Takyi took the forth position.

In a quiz competition, Mfantseman Girls scored 71 points to come first followed by Saltpond Methodist High School with 48 point. Anomabo Kwegyir Aggrey Secondary School placed third with 41 points. Ekumfi TI Ahmadiyya and Mankessim Secondary Technical School scored 39 and 20 points respectively to place forth and fifth.

Nana Appredontwe Fynn, District Culture Co-ordinator, commended the participants for their performance and urged them to prepare well for the regional competition on the topic: 93That corporal punishment should be abolished in the statutory books=94, to held later in the year or early next year.

He said prizes for the competitions would be distributed during the anniversary parade.
