Dead bodyguards of Vice President identified

Accra, Nov. 29, GNA - The three Police body guards of the Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, who lost their lives on Sunday in a motor accident in the line of duty in the Brong Ahafo Region have been identified.

They are: Sergeant (Sgt.) Major Bawah Ayomah; Sgt. Edward Anane Koranteng and Sgt. Azumah Alhassan. The identities of the deceased where made known on Tuesday, when Alhaji Mahama led a Government delegation to interact with the bereaved families in Accra.

The Vice President, who was accompanied by Alhaji Boniface Saddique, Minister of Youth and Employment and some Presidential aides also visited two Metro Television Journalists, Mr Edmund Bediako and Fred Bonny, the driver of the vehicle, Mr Peter Ekpedzor and a private Cameraman; Alhaji Abdul Diallo, who are receiving medical attention at the 37th Military Hospital in Accra.

There is no formal disclosure of what led to the fatal accident, but officials, who were accompanying the Vice President on that fateful day, said the incident occurred when Alhaji Mahama convoy was returning from Techiman to Sunyani after paying a courtesy call on the Omanhene (Paramount Chief) of Techiman Traditional Council, Osadeayo Akumfi Ameyaw IV.

The meeting of Alhaji Mahama with the Chief was part of a two-day official visit to the Region.

Meanwhile the mortal remains of the victims have been flown to Accra and are being kept in a morgue at the 37th Military Hospital.
