Legon to flush out students with fake certificates

Accra, Oct. 28, GNA - Professor Kwesi Yankah, Pro-Vice Chancellor of University of Ghana on Saturday hinted that authorities of the university had begun screening applications of students to flush out those with fake certificates in the system.

It is expected that the new auditing process would clean-up all the bad nuts in the system and restore the dented image of the university. Prof. Yankah gave the hint when addressing this year's Adinkra Durbar to install a new Chief Farmer of Akuafo Hall of the University of Ghana.

The durbar under the theme: 93The Relevance of Chiefs and the Chieftaincy Institution in Ghana's Democratic Process=94 formed part of activities to celebrate its 49th Hall Week.

Earlier, the immediate-past Chief Farmer, Nana Kwame Amenano Tannor I, Queen Mother Nana Abena Mansah Poku II, and their sub-chiefs graced the occasion in a colourful regalia and adowa dancing amid the throbbing of fontomfrom drums.

Prof Yankah noted that the Resident Board of the university would ensure that Hall week celebrations on campus did not hold the entire university community into ransom with their activities.

He said the university would prefer students organising their programmes during weekends where few lectures were conducted on campus and would not disturb residential halls close to classroom blocks. =93Please do not see these issues as an attempt by the university authorities to restrict the freedom of students,=94 he added. Ms Anita Amoh, Vice President of the Junior Common Room (JCR) urged the incoming Chief Farmer and Queen mother to use their enviable position to resolve the problem of apathy that had gripped members of the hall.

She called for more support to the JCR to carry out its programmes for the benefit of students.

Odeneho Nana Kofi Ampem Dankwa I, the new Chief Farmer for the Hall commended his predecessors for selfless and dedicated service rendered to the Akuafo Traditional Council and the Hall. He called on the youth to respect and harness their cultural heritage by preserving their distinctive African identity, personality and pride among the comity of nations.

Odeneho Dankwa pledged to cooperate with all stakeholders in the hall's administration to promote peace, unity and good academic progress.
