Anane's Supporters Make U-turn

Former Roads Transportation Minister, Dr. Anane, may have resigned but he remains the member of parliament(MP) for Nhyiaeso, in the Ashanti Region.

A fortnight ago, executive members of Dr. Anane’s constituency threatened to resign en mass if President Kufuor went ahead to implement the CHRAJ recommendations.

Anane resigned on his own volition yesterday. The NPP constituency chairman of Nhyiaeso, George Kofi Adjei, told JOYFM once Dr Anane resigned on his own volition they would stay at post although they believe he should have stayed in office.

Supporters of the ruling party in the Ashanti Region have generally hailed Dr Anane’s resignation. Although most of the NPP supporters disagree with the CHRAJ findings, they told LUV FM that leaving office is both in the former Road Transportation Minister’s interest and that of the government.

Reactions in the Central regional capital, Cape Coast were mixed. Majority of residents who spoke to VALCO News, a local radio station, said Dr Anane’s resignation is a plus to Ghana’s democracy.
