Sod cut for Ho limb fitting centre

Ho, Sept 30, GNA - Major Courage Quashigah (Rtd), Minister of Health on Friday cut the sod for work to begin on an ultra modern limb fitting centre at the Volta Regional Hospital, Ho. The Rotary Club of Ho, in collaboration with Rotary Plymouth in the United Kingdom, is sponsoring the 50,000-dollar facility christened the "Jaipur limb Centre".

The centre would among other services manufacture artificial limbs, which could last over four years.

In an address, Maj. Quashigah called on Ghanaians to change their general lifestyle and practice environmental and personal hygiene to be safe from preventable diseases.

He said it was only when the individual pay attention to his or her appropriation of food and its assimilation that the country could develop a healthy human resource base for accelerated growth. Maj. Quashigah said good lifestyles would also help reduce the country's expenditure on preventable diseases. He observed that the country currently spends about 1.2 trillion cedis from the National Health Insurance Scheme on malaria treatment annually.

Maj. Quashigah congratulated the Rotary Club for undertaking developmental activities and pledged that his ministry would make the facility available to all.

Mr Joseph Achana, a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) and Chairman of the Jaipur Limb Committee said the project was to restore hope to people affected by polio and others with limb problems. He said the Club was also rehabilitating people with disabilities at its centre for the physically challenged and aged.
