Rawlings' office denies subpoena story

Accra, Sept. 26, GNA - The Office of Former President Jerry Rawlings has denied that a US court had issued a subpoena inviting him to testify in a case in Illinois.
A statement on Tuesday signed by Mr Victor Smith, Special Assistant and Director of Public Affairs, said the "State Attorney of Branch 29 of the Cook County Court, whose responsibility it is for issuing any subpoenas in respect of cases at that branch has denied ever issuing such a document."
The statement said the State Attorney in Cook County "has indicated clearly that the court has jurisdiction only over persons resident in the Chicago area and that it is very rare for the court to issue a subpoena" an Accra-based newspaper referred to.
The statement said the case against Victoria Boateng, who said she was the daughter of the Former Head of State, General Ignatius Kutu Acheampong, had not yet come up for hearing.
It said she would be appearing at branch 29 of Cook Country on October 16 to answer a charge of assault against Mr Reuben Hadzie, President of the Ghana National Council in Chicago.
