7-year-old girl defiled by grandfather ....

... undergoes successful surgery

A seven-year-old girl who was allegedly defiled by her 62-year-old grandfather has undergone surgery to repair torn tissues in her genital area.

Three successive rapes allegedly endured by the young girl affectionately called little Adjoa, left a gaping hole in the tissues separating her anus from her vagina.

Doctors at the Korle-Bu Hospital Teaching Hospital who performed the surgery say they are confident of a quick recovery for the seven-year-old.

Talk show host Afua Ampene, who helped to draw attention to the little girl’s plight, visited the young girl after her surgery.

She told the Áccra-based radio station JoyFM that, the little girl is recovering steadily.

Contributions from corporate bodies, individuals and listeners of Joy FM totaling 50 million cedis helped to finance little Adjoa’s medical cost.

An Accra Fast Track Court which started hearing her case in February continues to sit on the matter. At the last sitting the cases was adjourned to October 16.
