Fireball extinguisher introduced to market

Accra, Sept. 25, GNA - The effort of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to combat frequent domestic fire outbreaks was given a boost on Monday through the introduction of a new "Revolutionary Fire Extinguisher Ball," into the Ghanaian market.

The "Fireball" in the shape of cannon detonates within three seconds after getting into contact with naked fire. It effectively makes a loud noise, which serves as a fire alarm and discharges fire-extinguishing chemicals simultaneously to quench the fire instantly.

"It is easy to use: just throw it into the fire area mainly at an enclosed environment or place it in a fire-prone site," Mr Acfo Kwame Kwateng, Deputy Director of GNFS Fire Safety Department, stated at the national launch in Accra.

In an introductory remark, Mr Kwateng recommended the use of the product at places not manned on a 24-hour basis because of its self-extinguishing quality as compared to the normal fire extinguisher, which requires the presence of a person.

"The product is handy (1.3kg), conveniently used by most people without formal fire fighting training....Its positioning does not require any critical considerations - it can be placed on tables, living rooms, on top of switch boards, shelves within kitchens, near air conditioning switch points," he said.

The Fireball sales agents in Ghana, Mr Daniel Tetteh, Chairman of "Dan-T Investments", said the new technology was effective in suppressing and extinguishing fire at its early stages in a confined environment.

Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah, Minister of the Interior, who launched the product, called for collaborated effort by both private and State institutions to combat fire outbreaks.

"A high rate of fire outbreak in a country affects its investment potential," he said, and lauded the introduction of the new technology on the market.
