Kpetoe, Dzodze gets water supply system

Dzodze, (V/R), Sept. 17, GNA - Mr. Hackman Owusu-Agyeman, Minister of Water Resources Works and Housing on Friday asked community water and sanitation development boards to manage funds accruing from such facilities well to ensure regular maintenance of such facilities. Mr. Owusu-Agyeman made the call at Kpetoe and Dzodze where he inspected their water supply systems.

He said donors who funded such systems were interested in how whey were managed as funds for such projects were from their tax-payers, who would not be pleased with poor management of the facilities. Mr. Owusu-Agyemang told the board members to regard their roles in their communities as vital to the survival of those communities, which trust they should not abuse.

Mr. Jesse Coffie Danku, Volta Regional Coordinator of Eastern and Volta Regions Project (EVORAP) and the German Technical Cooperation Agency said the Kpetoe and Dzodze facilities cost 4.2 billion cedis and six billion cedis respectively. He said 90 per cent of the two projects were funded by Germany, with the respectively district assemblies and communities providing the rest.

Mr. Justice Kudzo, Ketu District Chief Executive said the period 2002-2004 stood out as an era of water supply in the district. He said until that period acute water problem was the major problem confronting residents of the district and Dzodze in particular. Mr. Kudzo said some American organisations are currently in Dzodze to provide more bore-holes for the people. 17 Sept. 06
