Oguaaman holds durbar to round-off Fetu Afahye

Cape Coast, Sept. 02, GNA -- Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, Paramount Chief of Oguaa Traditional Area on Saturday expressed concern about the low level of the socio-economic development in the area and stressed the need for 91re-awakening' by the people.

He therefore, called on the people to join hands and work harder to develop the area, adding 93 All citizens of Oguaa should join hands to =91re-awaken' the town because it is dying.

Osabarima Atta made the call when addressing a grand and colourful durbar of the chiefs and people to round-off the weeklong activities for their 94Fetu Afahye=94 Festival at Cape Coast.

Before the durbar was a processing of the chiefs, queen mothers, traditional priests and priestesses, the seven Asafo Companies through the principal streets of the town.

Osabarima Atta appealed to the Government to explore the large tract of Kaolin deposits at Ekon a suburb of Cape Coast and establish a factory to generate employment for the youth.

Mr Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment, said Government was concerned about the status of the region as the fourth poorest in the country and would endeavour to improve on the living standards of the people. He said rehabilitation of the Baafikrom, Kwanyako and Winneba Water works, the Mallam-Yamoransa road and other projects bore testimony to the Government's efforts.

Mr Asamoah-Boateng said good governance and fairness in the distribution of development projects were the attributes of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government to ensure accelerated development of the country.

He urged the people to support the Government to remain focused to improve their living standards.

Nana Ato Arthur, Central Regional Minister, reminded the people that it was only through unity that the region could develop and stressed that such festivals should be devoid of politics and used to promote unity among the people.

He reiterated that Government had the development of the people at heart and would endeavour to improve their living standards. Among the dignitaries were Ministers of State, Parliamentarians, District Chief Executives, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, the 2004 flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and tourists.
