Asantehene to visit Libya

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has been invited for an eight-day goodwill and cultural visit to Libya by President Muamar Gaddafi.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by the Libyan Ambassador, Mohamed Gamudi, said the invitation was in recognition of the progressive role the Asantehene was playing as a traditional ruler in promoting Africa's indigenous culture and systems.

"Otumfuo's contribution to the projection of the traditional ruler as agent of change has been remarkable and the Libyan Leader greatly acknowledges it."

The statement said as part of activities marking the visit, Otumfuo Osei Tutu would be the Special Guest of the Libyan Leader at the celebrations marking the 37th anniversary of the Al Fateh Revolution on September 1.

They would also discuss a Memorandum of Understanding between the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, where the Otumfuo is the Chancellor, and the University of Al Fateh in Tripoli.

The Asantehene, who would be accompanied by a 40 member delegation, would visit the Great Man-Made River, a refinery and a number of industrial projects.

Otumfuo is expected to address a number of audiences, including the Ghanaian community on the role of traditional leaders in the delivery of development projects in their communities.
