U.S. presents 200 handcuffs to Police

Accra, Aug. 3, GNA - The U.S. on Thursday donated 200 pieces of handcuffs to the Ghana Police Service through the Ministry of the Interior.

Presenting the items Mr Jeffrey Graham in charge of Political Affairs in the U.S. Embassy in Accra said it was part of the support from the United States Department of Justice to assist in combating crime in the country.

Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah, Minister of the Interior flanked by Mr Farncis Poku, Minister of National Security and Mr Patrick Kwateng Acheampong, Inspector General of Police, received the items. Mr Kan-Dapaah said the Government appreciated the support of the United States to the Police Service which required the right equipment and skills to effectively combat crime.

He declared: "Effective policing was necessary for any democracy to strive to achieve economic development."

He expressed the Government's appreciation to the U.S. Government in all spheres in helping Ghana's democracy to grow.
