Effah-Dartey will no longer represent "drug barons"

Accra, July 27, GNA 96 Mr Nkrabea Effah-Dartey, former Deputy Minister of the Interior, will no longer represent his client in the narcotic case in which he is appearing at the moment.

Mr Effah-Dartey, who is Member of Parliament (MP) for Brekum, would also not do anything with regard to legal representation which would be conflict of interest or likely to bring a conflict of interest.

A statement issued in Accra on Thursday by Mr Joe Ghartey, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, said this was the outcome of a closed-door meeting he held with Mr Effah-Dartey on Tuesday.

Mr Effah-Dartey, who was chairman of the Narcotics Control Board while he was Deputy Minister of the Interior, kicked up a huge storm with his decision to represent clients in narcotics cases.

He was criticised for taking an action that showed conflict of interest but he justified his decision by saying that he had the right to earn his fees as a legal practitioner.
