Munufie goes home

Techiman (B/A) July 26, GNA - Remains of former National co-chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr Akumfi Ameyaw Munufie, who died in February this year was buried at Techiman on Saturday.

Mr Munufie, onetime Ghana's Ambassador in the Ivory Coast, died at the age of 77.

Among the mourners was a New Patriotic Party delegation, led by Ernest Akubour Debrah, Minister of Food and Agriculture, which donated 10 million cedis and assorted drinks to the bereaved family. Dr. Kwabena Adjei, National Chairman of NDC, who headed the Party's delegation, donated five million cedis to the bereaved family and 15 million cedis to the children.

In a tribute, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, NDC General Secretary, described the late Munufie as very decisive and ever prepared to stand by his decisions and that his excellent, retentive memory and ability to present historical facts graphically made him a virtual walking library. Mr Asiedu Nketiah said his death had created a vacuum in NDC, which would be difficult to fill because he was a hard working servant who commanded a great deal of respect in the Party.

Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw, Omanhene of the traditional area, in a tribute, said the late Munufie would be remembered for the significant role he played as a councillor to the Brongkyempem Confederation, which led to the creation of Brong Ahafo Region.

In a sermon, the Right Reverend Charles Kwasi Konadu, Diocesan Bishop of the Wenchi Methodist Church, Ghana, urged Christians and the public to learn to forgive and forget the wrong doings of neighbours to promote peace and harmony in the country.
