Reports reaching JOY ONLINE indicate that the contract of Guiseppe Dossena, the expatriate Coach of the National senior Soccer team, the Black Stars, has not been renewed.
Officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Sports Council, the Sports College Advisory Board as well as the executive members of the Ghana Football Association this morning held a meeting to assess the performance of the Coach and also decided on whether his two-year renewable contract should be extended. However, according to our sources at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Coach Dossena’s contract was terminated based on his performance with the national under-21 soccer team, Black Satellites, the national under 23 team, the Black Meteors and the National Senior Soccer team, the Black Stars. The Black Satellites crashed out of the world under-21 Championship, which was held in Nigeria last year, after losing out to Spain in the quarterfinals. The Meteors failed to qualify for the Olympic games while the Black Stars had a dismal performance during the African Cup of Nations tournament and are yet to qualify for the World Cup finals.
According to our sources, Ghana will now take advantage of a French Government co-operation offer, where the France will provide a French Coach. Ghana, on the other hand, will have to cater for the French Coach’s accommodation and allowances. It is not yet known how much the French coach will be paid although his services are expected to be relatively cheaper than the $12,000 that Coach Dosenna was taking every month.
