2 grabbed with cocaine at Kotoka International

Two suspected drug couriers were arrested at the Kotoka International Airport, by officials of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) while they were, respectively, going through departure formalities.

The two suspects Badu Frimpong, 27, a Ghanaian, and Ignatus Chukwudi Adindu, 38, a Nigerian.

Acting Executive Director of NACOB, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Daniel Laryea Odai said Frimpong, resident in Germany, was returning to his base when he was arrested at about 9.pm.

He said a search of his bag revealed four slabs of wrapped whitish powdery substance suspected to be narcotic drug concealed in both sides of the inner liner of the bag.

He said Frimpong claimed ownership of the parcels but said they were given to him by somebody he declined to name, to be delivered to one Mavis in Amsterdam.

Mr. Odei said Adindu, the second suspect, was arrested at about 8.pm when he was going through departure formalities to Johannesburg where he lives.

On being searched, a quantity of whitish substance suspected to be cocaine in a black polythene was found concealed in his travelling bag.

ACP Odai said Adindu also claimed the substance was given to him by someone to be delivered to his wife in South Africa for a fee of 1,000 dollars.

However, Adindu refused to take NACOB officials to the person’s house, saying he had little knowledge of Accra and could therefore not locate the house.

The suspects have been remanded in police custody pending further investigations and the substances have been taken to Ghana Standards Board for forensic examination, the executive director said.

ACP Odai appealed to the public to assist the Board to arrest such couriers and assured that the identities of informants will be kept confidential.
