Volta Region inaugurates Committee on Ghana's 50th year anniversary

Ho, July 13, GNA-Some commemorative projects are to be undertaken in the Volta Region towards the country's 50th Anniversary celebration next year.

Areas tentatively selected include roads, schools, alleys, obelisks and parks.

Mr Kofi Dzamesi, Volta Regional Minister said this during the inauguration of a 35-member Anniversary Planning Committee in Ho on Thursday.

The Committee, chaired by the Regional Minster comprised political office holders, traditional rulers, consultants and public officers. It has four sub-committees for infrastructure, security, organizational, publicity and education. Mr. Dzamesi tasked the Committee to submit its programmes and projects by December, this year. He said similar committees would be established in all the districts.

Mr. Dzamesi said celebration would cover the whole anniversary year with each month dedicated to a particular subject. Togbega Gabusu, Paramount Chief of the Gbi Traditional Area and President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs suggested that the programme on African Union scheduled for July of the anniversary year should rather be May in consonance with African Union Day, usually marked in May, every year.

The Committee broke into sub-committees to begin work soon after the inaugural ceremony.
