US based company supports four hospitals

Kumasi, July 6, GNA - An Electronics Company based in the United States of America (USA) has since the year 2004 supported four hospitals in Ghana through the provision of manpower training and equipment at the cost of six million dollars.

The beneficiary hospitals are Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Asesewa and Kintampo hospitals in the Eastern and Brong Ahafo regions, respectively.

The Company known as General Electric (GE), envisages another phase of the charitable programme under which some government hospitals in the Northern, Brong-Ahafo, Central, Volta and another health facility in Ashanti have been selected to benefit from an eight million dollar package in the form of training and equipment.

Mr Alex Canfor-Dumas, Project Manager for the company in Africa, made this known when his outfit presented 200 baby kits to 200 expectant and nursing mothers at the Kumasi Maternal Care Hospital on Wednesday. The kits, each packaged in a bag, included children's under pants, baby napkins, towels detergents and first aid boxes. The Project Manager said the presentation was to assist mothers in the general care of their babies.

Dr Yaw Brobbey Mpiani, Deputy Director in charge of Administration of the Ghana Health Service announced that the company had already donated X-ray and ultra sound equipment as well as generators and transformers to some hospitals.

Dr Mrs Annie Opoku, Medical Supe rintendent of the Hospital, who received the gifts on behalf of the mothers thanked the company for the gesture and advised mothers to use them for the babies. She said the Hospital aimed at providing excellent services to its clients but had been saddled by problems such as the lack of vehicles and generators and inadequate funding and appealed to the government and NGOs to come to the aid of the Hospital. 6 July 06
