Jubilant football fans told to be careful on the road

Kumasi, June 25, GNA - The National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) has reiterated its call on drivers to exercise maximum restrain on streets and roads and not be carried away by victories being chalked by the Ghana's Black Stars at the on-going FIFA World Cup tournament in Germany.

The Commission said, "jubilant football fans should avoid drunk-driving, over-speeding, excessive tooting on the road that have the tendency to turn the nation's joy into a nightmare".

Speaking to the GNA Sports in Kumasi on Friday, Mr Kwaku Oware-Boateng, Ashanti Regional Co-ordinator of the NRSC, called on drivers, passengers and pedestrians not to throw caution to the wind in the observance of motor traffic regulations.

This, he said, would help avert fatalities that are associated with reckless driving and disrespect for traffic regulations.

The NRSC Regional Co-ordinator pointed out that his outfit was collaborating with the Ashanti Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service to wage war on unlicensed motorbikes. Mr Oware-Boateng said the move formed part of measures by the NRSC to flush out miscreants who take advantage of the jubilant mood in town and use such motorbikes to commit crimes.

Whilst commending the Black Stars for the enviable feat they have so far chalked at the tournament, he appealed to football fans to strive to collaborate with the NRSC to ensure safety on the roads.
