Bourse Closes Week With Bearish Sentiments

ACCRA, Ghana (PANA) - The Ghana Stock Exchange All- Share Index rallied on Friday to end the streak of poor sessions when a 40-cedi gain by Home Finance Company (HFC) pushed it up by 1.08 points on Friday.

It closed the week up at 817.79 points from 816.71 points on Wednesday, but the market, whose main indices had marked time a couple of times, was once again dominated by bearish sentiments as most institutional investors continued to cold-shoulder the bourse.

There were only two price changes - one up and the other down.

HFC gained 40 cedis to close trading at 950 cedis from 910 cedis while Unilever lost four cedis at 1,845 cedis.

As much as 14 out of the 23 listed equities returned negative pressure while the other seven had no pressure on them.

Market capitalisation was up marginally at 3,566.40 billion cedis from 3,564.37 billion cedis.

The change for the year to date inched up by 0.15 percent to end the week at 11.09 percent.

On the broader market, a mere 16,000 shares changed hands but bids rose from 32,100 to 114,000.

Offers were equally up at 2.1 million from 1.8 million.
