Stars victory sparks wild jubilation in town

Accra, June 17, GNA 96 The Black Stars victory over Czech Republic on Saturday, parked wild jubilation in town as thousands trooped to the streets in celebration of the sweet victory over highly rated Czechs. Almost every corner of the city was characterised with sirens from both private and commercial car owners, while some prefer to drum and dance on the streets to celebrate.

Infact it was a mixture of all manner of people irrespective of their socio-economic background. What even made the celebration interesting is the few number of white tourists, who joined the Ghanaians on the streets to celebrate. At Osu, it was a more or less like carnival as people stormed the streets immediately after final whistle engaging in all forms of jubilations, resulting in a heavy traffic. There was drumming and dancing on the Oxford Street with almost every person found on the street dressed in the national colours; red, yellow and green to celebrate.

For many of the fans it is journey of no return for the team because they are going all out and beat the United States of America (USA) to qualify for the next stage of the competition. A check at most food joints at Osu saw most of them almost empty, as every body seem to be on the streets jubilating but the situation was different in the drinking bars.

At the Papaye Resturant, the place was devoid of the busy nature in the evenings, whilst a check at some drinking sports saw the beginning of gatherings by customers. However interview conducted across a section of the fans reveals that fans are so excited about the victory because it was coming at time when all hopes seems lost for the team after their first defeat at the hands of Italy. Mr Mawuko Zomelo, Editor of the Network Herald was lost of words

when the GNA contacted him. "I can='t talk because I=;m so happy, the victory is just so much for me".

For Mr Francis Sotodji, a Purchasing Officer at the Ghana Agro Foods Company (GAFCO) it was a well deserved victory for the Stars, =93the boys have made me happy, I can go to bed and sleep soundly=94. He however wondered why the team could not convert the numerous chances that came their way adding that it could have aided the team after the final group matches when goals scored are taken into consideration. Mr Sotodji expressed the hope that the Stars would make amends in the last game against USA.

On the parts of Miss Tina Asante it was a victory she never expected because the team was playing against a well drilled side but was happy when they finally made the whole nation proud. The thoughts and every Ghanaian on the day seem to be the same after s weet victory. Stars scored a goal in each half to win their first ever world cup game after a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Italians in their first game. A win for them against the USA will the team securing a ticket to the next stage of the competition.
