Ghana is choice of Brazilian company's Africa regional office

Accra, May 24, GNA - Ghana's agriculture is on the threshold of a massive boost as EMBRAPA, a giant Brazilian agricultural research institution, selects the country as its regional base for technical co-operation with African countries.

The focus of this co-operation would be in priority areas like food security, agribusiness and energy production.

A delegation of the institution led by its International Consultant, Mr Castelo Roberto was at the Castle, Osu, on Wednesday to formally inform President John Agyekum Kufuor about the decision. He said with this Ghana stood to benefit tremendously from the scientific and technological know-how, which had transformed Brazil into one of the world's major agricultural nations.

"We are here to share our experience with you", he said. The two countries share similar ecological conditions.

President Kufuor said he was happy that the country had been chosen as the place to spread the advancement of agriculture. He described Brazil as a bridging country, which could be characterized as both developed and developing and Ghana would not only gain by way of technology transfer but also provide Brazil the gateway to Africa.

He said the Government would give every support to make the technical co-operation successful.
