Bawku cola markets on fire

Bawku (U/E), May 17, GNA - Two cola nuts markets in Bawku were partially burnt down almost simultaneously by two separate fire outbreaks on Tuesday dawn.

This came in the wake of two separate fire incidents that engulfed four drinking and chop bars and a boutique exactly three weeks ago, destroying properties and cash worth over one billion cedis. The first incident occurred at about 1945 hours on Monday when a vehicle an auto mechanic apprentice was working on in a near by fitting shop caught fire and spread to the cola market at Gingande. In the second incident, the fire started in a wooden shop close to the cola nut market at Possum and spread to the market Ghana National Fire Service personnel brought it under control. A trader at the Gingande cola market, Alhaji Seidu Alale, said new stock worth 15 million cedis that was received on Thursday was destroyed.

The apprentice who caused the fire has fled the town for fear of his life.
