Rawlings granted bail

Accra - Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, Ghana's former first lady, appeared in court in Accra on Thursday, along with seven other former public officials, on charges of causing financial loss to a public body.

All of the accused denied the 30 counts against them and were granted bail, the Ghana News Agency said. All eight have been summoned to reappear before the court on May 29 through June 2.

Nana Rawlings, wife of former Ghanian president Jerry Rawlings, has been charged with conspiracy, causing financial loss to a public body, intentionally causing loss to public property and obtaining pubic property by false statement during the divesture of public company Nsawam Cannery.

Rawlings is also chairperson of Carridem Development Company Limited (CDC), and is accused along with Sherry Ayittey, managing director of CDC; Georgina Okaiteye, director/general manager CDC; George Mould, director CDC and Larry Adjetey, director/secretary, CDC. - Sapa-dpa
