Committee of Eminent Kings commended

Tamale, April 1, GNA - Alhaji Abubakar Saddique Boniface, Northern Regional Minister has commended the Otumfuo's Committee of Eminent Kings for the mature manner they handled the Dagbon issue to come to a compromise.

"This clearly shows that we politicians owe our successes to traditional rulers if we listen to their advice because they know how to solve issues amicably", he said.

Alhaji told the GNA in Tamale in an interview after final sitting and compromise achieved by the Committee of Eminent Kings to bury the late Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II on April 10 this year.

"I shared tears of joy in Kumasi when finally all parties concerned to the Dagbon skin reached an amicable compromise and appended their signatures in acceptance to bury our late beloved King and to appoint a regent in line with Dagbon tradition," he emphasised.

The Minister has therefore, appealed to the President to declare April 10, which is the burial day of the late King a holiday in the north so that they can mourn their beloved king and that flags in the whole of Dagbon should fly half mast for him.

Alhaji Boniface described Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II as a hero and even though dead, must be accorded the necessary respect and recognition of all time.

He commended the government for playing a neutral role in the matter saying, "There is now the need for the cooperation of all to ensure peace and development".

Alhaji Boniface said the agreements reached on the document was not meant for victory to any side and appealed to all the gates to continue with the spirit of accommodation, compromise and oneness to foster lasting peace in the area.

He urged all those who were misrepresenting the facts on the final agreement on the burial to desist from doing so, to ensure a successful burial and in the interest of peace in Dagbon. 01 April 06
