Zongo Group Parries Attacks On Bawumia

A group calling itself United Zongo for Bawumia says henceforth, it would not allow anybody to disparage NPP Running mate Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's for giving what they called an honest assessment of the economy.


Dr Bawumia has persistently been attacked by elements of the ruling NDC and other propagandists, including ministers of state for his constant "Mind-Blowing" assessment of the economy.

The Group at a news conference in Accra said since Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia'shad always predicted Correctly the state of the economy , they would respond in equal measure any attack on the economic guru's person.


"Predictably, the NDC Communications teams instead of appreciating Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's analysis of the 2016 budget have rather sought to insult Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and disregard his analysis and the economic policy solutions that he generously offered,". The Group said.


"For example - Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has accused Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia constantly using stale and discredited economic data for his critique of the Mahama Administration.Similarly Felix Ofosu Kwakye - the Deputy Communications Minister has stated that Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's analysis was hackneyed and pedestrian".


"The United Zongo for Bawumia find comments to be immature and lack the objectivity and sensibility that political leaders should command and possess."



The group said that some of Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's analysis, including his statement that President John Mahama had superintended over the collapse of the Cedi- making it the worst performing currency in Africa, Job losses, Collapse of industries, increasing graduate unemployment , massive corruption , cronyism, surrendering control of our economy to the IMF and world-bank, dumsor among others, were a reality and could not be taken for granted.


The group stressed that the NDC's wanton stealing and misappropriation of state resources which Dr. Mahamudu Bawumiaspoke about were real.


"Far from being pedestrian, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has clearly outlined and given the evidence, using data sourced from the Government's very own Ministerial Sectors - such as Ministry of Trade and Agriculture, to show how the NDC Government had totally mismanaged the economy."


"During Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's tenure at the Bank of Ghana, Ghana achieved a 500% increase in our GDP....taking the economy from $5.1 billion in 2000 to $28.5 billion in 2008 (WITHOUT OIL) revenue ."


"In the eight years of the NDC the economy only managed to increase from $28.5 bn to a projected $39.4 bn in 2016 (WITH OIL). A 52% increase only compared to the 500% increase achieved by the NPP Government of President Kufuor.Job creation under NPP expanded enormously and was commensurate with the expansion of the economy." The group said.
