The chief of Ga Mashie, Nii Tackie Adama Latse II, has received the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Dr.Oba Adeyeye Enitan, to his palace on Saturday July 23.
The Yoruba chief from Nigeria is in the country to visit his ancestral kinsmen since they migrated from Nigeria some 400 years ago, saying he was motivated by the brotherly love the Ga and Yoruba people shared, hence his decision to follow up to find out firsthand how his tribesmen were faring since relocating to Ghana.

The Gas settled along the coast of Accra in present-day Ghana after being led by Nii Ayi Kushi following three days of travelling on foot from Ile Ife, southwest of Nigeria.

Nii Tackie Adama Latse II expressed the gratitude of Ga Mashie to the Yoruba traditional ruler for his visit. “We are all grateful [for this visit]. It signifies the good relations between us and our Nigerian brothers. And we realise this gesture is a wonderful one so we will also pay them a courtesy call in Nigeria to familiarise ourselves with where they stay so victory and grace become ours because unity is strength,” the Ga chief expressed.

For his part, Nii Borketey Ansuade, the chief of Baatsonaa, described the occasion as momentous and hoped the “love and unity” between the two tribes would be maintained by succeeding generations. He was hopeful that the visit of the Oba would consolidate the ties between the Gas and their Yoruba kinsmen.
