Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka ‘Wontumi,’ has taken the party’s campaign for this year’s national election to a new and interesting level.

The NPP capo, who commands a lot of respect and affection in the region, Thursday stunned residents in Kumasi including his own party supporters, as he campaigned in a commercial bus, known locally as ‘Trotro.’

Followed by scores of party people including the acting regional organizer, Stephen Amoah, popularly called ‘Sticker,’ the NPP chairman ignored the comfort of his fleet of private flashy vehicles to sit in ‘Trotro.’

Wontumi was seen thoroughly explaining the party’s flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s vision to save Ghana from the clutches of adverse poverty, when elected president, to other passengers.

He also used the occasion to pin-point some of the bad and unproductive policies and programmes of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, led by President Mahama which had brought untold hardship on the citizenry, to the passengers.

The NPP chairman and his entourage boarded several commercial buses to different locations in the city on the day, doing the same thing, appealing passionately to the people to vote for Nana Akufo-Addo to restore hope to Ghana.

Interestingly, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, affectionately called ‘Napo,’ the Manhyia South MP in Kumasi, recently launched the famous ‘Room-To-Room’ campaign in his constituency to get closer to the electorate and maximize the party’s votes.

Wontumi praised Napo for his hard work and vision, stating that he as chairman had also began the campaign in ‘Trotro’ with the sole aim of getting closer to the electorates and explaining Nana Addo’s policies to them so as to secure their votes.

“My campaign and that of Napo are almost the same which is geared towards increasing the NPPs votes in the region significantly. The only difference is that I am targeting people in cars and Napo is targeting people in their rooms,” Wontumi remarked.

The NPP chairman assured that the ‘Trotro’ campaign would be replicated at the various communities in the region henceforth, adding that the party would also come out with series of campaign strategies to win more votes to enable Nana Akufo-Addo become president.

Party stalwarts such as Andy Owusu, Wontumi’s Programmes Manager, Elizabeth, who usually acts as the party’s MC during programmes in Kumasi and Adiza Zongo Pioneer, just to mention a few, were also in Wontumi’s entourage.

Fire Victims

Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional branch of the NPP had visited the Dagomba Line, a slum in Kumasi which suffered a ferocious fire outbreak on Saturday evening, to console the thousands of victims, who are mainly head porters, known as ‘Kayayie.’

Led by Wontumi, the NPP executives assured the fire victims that the party’s flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo and the entire NPP fraternity also shared their grief , assuring that the party would assist them in due time to lessen their financial burdens.
