Some youth in the Ashaiman Constituency have called on delegates who will be casting their votes in the November 7 NDC primaries to endeavor to retain the incumbent Member of Parliament Alfred Kwame Agbesi to continue to lead the NDC in the constituency.

According to the youth, Mr Agbesi has a wealth of experience which must not be allowed to go waste.

The youth says Mr Agbesi has done a lot for the people of Ashaiman and must be given the nod to lead the party in the coming primaries.

Speaking in an interview, the youth noted that, Mr Agbesi’s position occupied in Parliament as the Deputy Majority Leader did not come by chance but through loyalty, hard work and dedication.

Abass Nuhu a resident noted that the Deputy Majority leader has represented the people of Ashaiman very well in Parliament and has helped in addressing the image crisis Ashaiman hitherto has been suffering.

“In the past, if you mention Ashaiman, people look at you at a certain way but now things have changed because we occupy an important position in Parliament.

Mr Agbesi has done a lot for the people of Ashaiman and he must be allowed to continue because if a new candidate inherits the projects he has started, it will take us time to complete them since that person would be a novice in the system and therefore take time to settle”.

Mr Nuhu continued that among the candidates contesting the elections in Ashaiman, none of them has what it takes to lead the people of Ashaiman. John Amu also a resident however was optimistic that Mr Agbesi will emerge the winner after the November 7 elections.

According to him, Mr Agbesi has only served three terms in Parliament and must be allowed to go for the fourth term to enable him bring more developmental projects to the people of Ashaiman.

“Mr Agbesi has only done three terms so why are people worried as though he has been there since 1992” “I think Mr Agbesi must be allowed to go again as he has a lot more to offer the people of Ashaiman with his new position as the Deputy Majority leader”

He called on the other aspirants to throw in the towel as it was a waste of time and effort trying to contest the incumbent MP who is still popular in the constituency.

When contacted, a former Constituency Organizer, Abel Adjei noted that the incumbent Member of Parliament deserve to be maintained as he has brought a lot of development to the constituency.

Mr Adjei noted that, among a few notable developmental projects initiated by the MP includes leading Ashaiman to attain a Municipal Status, constructing a two storey school building at twui bleo, the construction of a school block at the Ashaiman cluster of schools number five and providing furniture to the classrooms and the construction of an ICT center at the Ashaiman cluster of schools.

He added that the MP also raised the standard of the Ashaiman health center to the status of a polyclinic by building maternity blocks, providing generator plant to address their power needs, a theatre and the construction of a modern male and female ward.

Others include the building of two CHIPS Compound at Ashaiman Lebanon and Jericho.

Mr Adjei said he will be surprised if the people of Ashaiman decide otherwise by voting a different candidate as the Parliamentary Candidate for Ashaiman because the Deputy Majority Leader, Alfred Kwame Agbesi has done a lot for the Ashaiman constituency.
